Graduation day - frequently asked questions

What should I wear?

Smart casual dress is the standard code. The colours of the hood are red and blue, so try and avoid clashing; the robes themselves are black.  The robes and hood are quite heavy and need something to cling to at the front – jacket / fitted blouse with a button / heavy top that it could be pinned to. They are also quite warm so it is best not to wear too much underneath and risk being too hot.

What should my family and guests wear?

They should wear something smart or smart/casual in keeping with the occasion.

Can I have any extra guests?

Numbers are unfortunately restricted to 2 guests per graduand.  However, on request of additional guest places, their details will be added to a reserve list.  Should we have any spare places, these will be allocated and you will be notified.  Please do not bring any additional guests with you on the day as we may not be able to accommodate them and the venue does not have any indoor waiting facilities.

Are there any hotels nearby that you can recommend?

Accommodation is available at the venue.  Further details of this can be found on the graduation information page.

Do I have to wear a robe?

You do not have to wear a robe to graduate although it is unusual for graduands not to wear a robe as it is part of the ceremony atmosphere.

Where can I hire a robe from?

For information about robing and photographs, please visit WM Northam’s website www.wmnortham.co.uk or call 0870 240 1852.

What level of membership will I receive?

CSBM graduands gain the Diploma in Administrative Management (AInstAM (Dip))

DSBM graduands gain the Advanced Diploma in Administrative Management (MInstAM (AdvDip))

Is there parking nearby?

There is ample free car parking at the venue with CCTV cameras, floodlighting and designated disabled spaces.

Is there anywhere to get anything to eat?

The Learning and Conference Centre is situated about a mile from the city centre. Unfortunately there are no cafes or shops nearby. However, there will be light refreshments provided on arrival and a buffet is provided after the ceremony.

When will I receive formal confirmation of my booking?

Once you have registered via the online booking system, you should receive confirmation on your screen that the booking has been successfully completed. You will also receive an email which will contain a link to your invoice or credit/debit card receipt.

Approximately two weeks prior to your ceremony, we will send you a formal confirmation which will list your guests. At this time, we will also send you a location map and travel directions. Please ensure that you read the details on this confirmation.

If you do not receive this, please contact RS Live on 0845 363 1478 or by email at sbmgrads@rslive.co.uk.

How do I notify you of any special requirements that I may have?

If you or any of your guests require any special requirements, ie wheelchair access, dietary requirements, etc please ensure you register these details when you complete the online booking form.  Alternatively, you can email us at sbmgrads@rslive.co.uk.

What should I do if I am unable to attend the graduation or if I am running late?
