Class of 2005

NCSL is committed to supporting all new headteachers in their vital first three years in post.

If you are in your second year of headship, you are part of the Class of 2005 and you now may be considering how to spend your grant for Early Headship Provision (EHP). More details about EHP and the New Visions programme can be found below.

Early Headship Provision (EHP)

NCSL recognises that early headship represents a critical phase in a school leader's development and has developed this new provision following consultation with a range of stakeholders, in direct response to what NCSL has learned about effective leadership learning opportunities in early headship.

EHP will:

• support new headteachers in identifying and addressing their development needs
• support new headteachers in designing and following their desired pathway through the early years of headship
• provide access to a wide range of learning opportunities for new headteachers that meet those needs as they emerge
• enable new headteachers to experience and understand the value of coaching and collaborative leadership learning
• help headteachers to apply their learning in the contextual realities of their school and locality
• bring new headteachers from the periphery of headship to full membership by connecting them with colleagues and a range of supporting relationships
• help new headteachers to recognise the impact that their leadership behaviours have on others and ultimately on pupils' learning in their schools

New Visions

The New Visions programme is an innovative, 10-month programme for new headteachers built on the most powerful learning models in the world.

The programme enables headteachers to generate new understandings about themselves and their schools, and develop enduring leadership learning skills – through study, problem solving and peer support. It also offers a forum for new headteachers to engage in professional dialogue, encouraging an exchange of perspectives and challenges within a safe and supportive environment.

NCSL's Leadership Network is a national network, with nine regional networks across the country. It represents school leaders from all phases, as active members of NCSL.
