Equal Access to Promotion consists of three phases.
Participants who are offered places will be expected to seek agreement for their participation in the course with their headteacher and in accordance with their school's continuing professional development procedures. Participants select and complete a short, guided, school-based leadership investigation (eg shadowing a more senior colleague). Participants who are undertaking Leadership Pathways or Leading from the Middle may be able to use their experiences on those programmes as the basis for this piece of work. All applicants who are offered places will be required to prepare a five-minute leadership presentation (ready for phase two) based on their leadership investigation. Guidance will be provided when places are offered.
Two-day and one-night residential forum experience at NCSL in Nottingham. The content and delivery of this residential is adapted in line with the needs of each group of participants, but will include the following.
Participants complete their chosen leadership change study, alongside usual teaching and leadership duties (over no more than three months). They will be encouraged to seek General Teaching Council's Teacher Learning Academy Stage 2 or 3 (as appropriate) and are expected to submit with a written report on their study to the National Union of Teachers (NUT)/NCSL to contribute to professional knowledge about leadership.
