Entry

The focus is on the individual as a learner and participants can expect:

Core: New Visions

New Visions brings together new headteachers in dynamic regional groups that explore real challenges and work collaboratively on solutions to the issues they face every day in their schools.

Building on the National Standards for Headteachers, the themes of this six-day programme provide a framework for headteachers to consider leadership in their own schools and in the wider context.

Emerging needs

It is important that new headteachers are able to respond to their leadership learning needs in early headship as they emerge. The EHP grant can be used flexibly, enabling participants to have access to a wide range of leadership learning activities. These might include:

Coaching

Coaching may be a one-to-one process, but where a number of participants indicate the same need for coaching and believe they would benefit from working as a group, the provider may arrange group coaching.

Participant-designed activities

This is intended to be an opportunity for new headteachers to work collaboratively with providers and their partners to customise learning activities to meet individual and group learning needs as they emerge.

Locally-designed and other activities

There is a wealth of opportunities available to new headteachers from other sources. Providers will support participants to access these where they meet an identified personal learning need. The flexible element of the grant can be used to fund these activities.

Provider-designed activities

Providers will offer a range of learning activities to support headteachers in issues that are pertinent, especially to their locality and context, as well as addressing the current educational agenda.

NCSL activities

The flexible grant can be used to fund a range of NCSL activities including Leading Practice seminars and other events.
