What's new for autumn 2008: register for a Leadership Network event near you.

Partnership events and activities

During 2008/09 the Leadership Network will offer a variety of exciting events. Not only do we provide local and regional events that reflect the issues and opportunities in the nine government regions, we also offer regional initiatives and partnership events.

Throughout the year the Leadership Network will be working in partnership with a range of NCSL partners and other stakeholders including the SSAT, QCA, CfBT and the National Strategies to provide network members with access to a number of partnership events, which will be running on a regional basis across the country. These include:

NCSL's 11–19 new secondary curriculum support programme

NCSL is working with the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) and other national partners to support schools in their preparation for the introduction of the new secondary curriculum in autumn 2008.

Leading the curriculum change workshops

All workshops have now been delivered for summer 2008. There were some fantastic examples of curriculum innovation and change presented and there will shortly be a sample of presentations and case studies available to download.

Autumn activity

The support programme for all secondary, middle and special schools continues in autumn 2008. The focus of delivery is managing change and planning for the future, including assessment. There will be additional bespoke workshops held for special and middle schools during November.

The activity is planned as follows.

Invitations to attend the regional activity will be distributed in early September.

Find out more about the workshops. If you have any further queries please contact Senior Project Co-ordinator Alison Matthews on 0115 872 2567.

Leading Practice events - autumn 2008 and spring 2009

NCSL’s Leading Practice events are designed to help shape the future of school leadership by discussing, debating and influencing research, policy and practice. They are a series of innovative and creative events that put school leaders at the heart of the debate.

The events we have planned for the autumn and spring terms are:

Delivering the Every Child Matters (ECM) agenda at NCSL

The ECM & Standards Team’s work focuses on defining the leadership of the ECM agenda and the impact that it is making, through research, new developments, pilots and case studies.  There is an emphasis on locality leadership and on schools not yet fully engaged with the agenda as well as finding and sharing examples of effective practice.  Our findings are disseminated into the system through events and workshops; the web resources ECM Leadership Direct and Taking the Wider View; and through publications and toolkits such as the Leadership for Learning in Extended Schools toolkit.

The newly commissioned Multi Agency Team Development (MATD) Programme addresses the challenges faced by multi-agency teams in the delivery of the ECM agenda and the development of extended schools. We seek the support of the Leadership Network in creating a wider audience for this leading edge product.

During 2008-09 we aim to build new and strengthen existing partnership arrangements to enhance reach, engagement and impact, and promote system wide change. We will be hosting a series of events designed to disseminate key learning around the agenda. The ECM advocates, drawn from the network, will be important members of our extended team helping us to do this.

Research Associates Programme

NCSL's Research Associates Programme offers an opportunity for senior school leaders and leaders of children's centres to engage in enquiry and undertake research that will impact on practice. Through this, they embark on an experience that provides both personal and professional development.

Research associates focus on an aspect of leadership connected with one or more of the four key challenges of the College’s corporate plan. These are:
