The application round for LftM is now open. Find out how to apply.
The application round for Leading from the Middle (LftM) cohort 13 opens on 18 May 2009. No formal closing date has been set.
The application round for each region will close once all places have been allocated.
LftM is a popular programme and we anticipate demand to exceed the available number of places. Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer additional subsidised places until the next cohort, currently anticipated to start during 2010.
Below is an overview of the key stages of the application process and information about the key personnel involved.
In order for a collaborative group application to be processed efficiently as possible, your group must identify an application co-ordinator. The co-ordinator will take the lead in ensuring that key actions in the application process take place. A collaborative group is a group of schools with collective aims, which works together to address a specific local focus through LftM.
The co-ordinator must contact your regional provider to discuss details of the collaborative group, including the key information required.
If this conversation with the regional provider indicates a potentially viable collaborative group, the provider will send an EOI form to the application co-ordinator.
This EOI form will require key pieces of information, including:
Once completed, your co-ordinator will email the EOI form back to the regional provider for review. Please note that the EOI form is not a formal application for LftM.
If, after review of the EOI, your regional provider is able to issue a formal invitation to apply, they will contact your co-ordinator by email.
This email will contain a link to the LftM online application form. The application co-ordinator will then begin the application process for your group.
Once the co-ordinator has completed their part of the application, your group will then receive an email inviting you to complete the process. This email will contain a link to a form in which you must enter your details.
Because of the anticipated oversubscription, you must complete your formal application as soon as possible. This will enable providers to handle potential collaboratives as fairly as possible.
All applicants will have 10 working days to fully complete the application. If an application remains incomplete after this date, your invitation will be withdrawn and offered to a different group.
Co-ordinators must remain in contact with applicants to ensure that everyone completes the application within the time-frame.
An application for the programme can only be considered complete if you receive an email letting you know that your application has been received. If you are in any doubt, please contact the NCSL help desk at enquiries@ncsl.org.uk or on 0845 609 0009.
If participation on LftM has been identified as something that will help you address a demonstrable local need, your group can use this criteria as supporting evidence for your application.
There is a diverse range of local needs - with schools in many challenging contexts - which you can cite as part of your supporting evidence. Examples include issues related to pupil achievement such as a drop in standards in year 7, diversity related issues, or in-school/cross-school variation within the area. It can also include other areas of need as identified by local authorities.
