Policy into practice

Policy into practice (pdf, 504kb, 4 pages) is a publication for new headteachers.

New heads support

NCSL is committed to supporting all school leaders throughout their careers, with personalised resources that can be used to improve their schools and their leadership.

Our New Heads Handbook 2007 includes information about the support available to heads and the specific resources the College offers those who are new to the role. This will be available to download at the end of October.

Are you still considering headship? More information is available for you in Career moves, our guide to becoming a headteacher.

Early Headship Provision (EHP)

From 1 September 2006 the Headteacher Induction Programme (HIP) was replaced by the Early Headship Provision. NCSL recognises that early headship represents a critical phase in a school leader's development and has developed this new provision following consultation with a range of stakeholders, in direct response to what NCSL has learned about effective leadership learning opportunities in early headship. More information is available on the EHP pages.
