Policy into Practice

Policy into Practice is a publication for new headteachers that highlights the current hot topics in education and looks in detail at how headteachers around the country are contributing, not just responding, to the shifting educational landscape.

In Policy into Practice, we aim to bring to life some of these topics by documenting the experiences of headteachers around the country. We want to hear your experiences and practice too, so do contact us at classof@ncsl.org.uk.

Have your say on these issues and discuss them with other school leaders in NCSL in Dialogue.

Issue one

Policy into practice 1

In the first issue, we explore the move to extended school status and the process involved in opening up the school to a wider community and operating beyond the standard school day. The head of a city academy reflects on the reality of leading this type of school and the implications for leadership this model has. Finally, we examine the benefits of faith school education as described by the headteacher of one Catholic school. With this succinct briefing we aim to offer a range of leaders' perspectives on the hot education topics of the moment.
