IntroductionThe information which follows is based on the results of pilot work carried out by the NCSL in 2006/7. Many schools are finding it increasingly difficult to recruit leaders. They are not alone in this - talent is increasingly critical and scarce in organisations in all sectors and many countries. We are probably near the peak of this challenge and conditions may improve after a few years. Experience has shown that it is possible to address the challenge with a few straightforward tactics and reap enduring benefits in terms of leadership and morale. This interactive guide looks at the challenges both in the system as a whole and also in terms of the importance of local variations. It is based on NCSL's document 'A Framework for Action' which contains a set of ideas and tools for planning, creating and managing local strategies for succession planning. The document can be downloaded in full from the Resource Centre in Tomorrow's Leaders Today. To move on, select Next. |
