Leadership map (Aspiring Heads)

Introduction

Right now you may well be considering Headship as a future role. Perhaps you are establishing your readiness for NPQH. Maybe you are working towards a leadership role that is non-traditional and you are wondering how you'll navigate your way to making this a reality.

The leadership map is a generic career framework. Simply put, it is a matrix of jobs that have been sorted and categorised in various ways eg according to the complexity of work found in that job or the amount of influence required by the job-holder in order for them to do that job well.

Clarity about where you are and where you are going is essential when planning the next steps for your career path. This leadership map will define your current role and any future ideal roles in a way that is new and different to how you might have viewed them before.

Job or Role

Whilst the words job and role are used interchangeably during this online tool it is worth noting that in instances where the task or work responsibility is defined or understood we may use the word job. eg The job of a School Business Manager.

Where we describe the function of a job or where the job is undefined, the word role may be used. eg This is a job suitable for someone desiring a strategic leadership role within a small cluster of primary schools.
