"I joined Fast Track in my fifth year of teaching, took maternity leave in the middle of it and was back for around 12 months before being offered my current post. The programme appealed for two reasons: the support to move up the management ladder quickly; and the networking opportunities that I wasn't getting being part of a rural community. I knew where I wanted to be but, at the time, felt I was missing out by not hearing about the latest initiatives.

The programme has given me more management knowledge than my peers who have moved up through the wider education system. I know it has because of what I hear at our cluster meetings. I still have a lot to learn and gain through experience, but I certainly understand more about coaching and people management than others.

I'm very happy to be involved with Fast Track because I know how good it has been for me. It's not like you ever really lose touch with it. I continue to get support from the programme, my coaching tutor is always willing to help and I'm still invited to attend residential courses. As an alumna, for example, I led a session on assessment using e-profile at a recent residential course.

It's a fabulous programme that has brought me forward by a couple of years. Having said that, I went in fairly late on so others could move quicker. If I now see talent and they have aspirations for leadership, I would always advise them to apply. In the next three years I'll be looking for a headship. I now know that's something I can achieve. The course has given me the confidence and the nudge to keep moving on."
