"Fast Track raises your profile with your school's senior leadership team so they are more likely to listen to your ideas, even though you're still relatively new in your career. I started on the programme in 2003?04 as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education student and I'm now at the end of my fourth year. I'm not following the usual route into the National Professional Qualification for Headship. I'm creating my own role which combines my interests ? multi-media education and the global dimension.

Last March I took a group of 14 geography students to Morocco for 10 days. As part of the trip we filmed from the Atlas mountains and fed this information back to a website where the other kids could log in and see live images. Over the summer I organised a series of one-day INSET events to train teachers on how to use things like virtual fieldwork the use of Global Positioning Systems in their own schools. This February I took a group of nine students to the Middle East for 12 days to help them develop a more balanced view of the region, over 20,000 pupils in London logged in to see their experiences online.

I've had three mentors in school, who have all been great, and my personal leadership tutor has a wide array of experience I can draw on. That's what Fast Track gives you ? a look at how other people are coping with the same issues you're facing."
