The support I received and the mentor I had were key to the whole programme for me.
Kirstie Millar, Advanced Skills Teacher, Keyworth Primary School, SouthwarkTaking part in the programme will give Fast Track teachers access to advice and assistance from experts in the field of education and leadership from both within and outside the school. In addition to the support that the programme provides, the commitment and active support of the headteacher is vital to ensure that they have the opportunities to demonstrate their developing leadership ability.
Independent from the school, the personal leadership tutor (PLT) is there throughout the time spent on the programme. A triangular relationship is formed with the PLT, in-school mentor and headteacher, which will both support and challenge the Fast Track teacher at each stage as they progress.
At an initial set-up meeting the PLT will explain their role and discuss the expectations of the programme for both the Fast Track teacher and the school. At this set-up meeting they will also discuss objectives, establish goals and agree a suitable Wider School Focus.
The PLT will undertake three face-to-face visits over the year, offering support, guidance and coaching.
