Joining the Head for the Future programme constitutes a year-long commitment to your own learning and that of your headteacher peers. When booking a place on Head for the Future, you commit to attend and participate in all aspects of the programme.
During the programme you will be required to attend a 3-day residential and return after 12 months for a final 1-day face-to-face event. Between face-to-face events you will work with a small group of headteachers, providing each other with the challenge and support needed to move forward. This support will most likely require you to attend informal meetings with your peer group during the year.
Once enrolled onto Head for the Future, if you are unable to attend or to continue with any aspect of the programme, please contact your provider as soon as possible. You will also be asked to notify us of your cancellation in writing. Please be aware that if you withdraw (particularly at short notice or at later stages) you will deny others a programme place and incur venue fees which are usually not recoverable for providers. Withdrawing from the programme may also have a negative impact on the learning of your peers.
As such, all schools will be charged a cancellation fee for withdrawal based on the sliding scale in the table below. This must be funded from the school budget or by the participant. If headteachers small school withdraw, the usual full subsidy from NCSL will not apply.
| Timing of change or withdrawal | Fee |
|---|---|
| Prior to enrolment on the Learning Gateway | No fee |
| Up to eight weeks before the Phase 2 residential | £635 |
| Up to 3 weeks before or during the Phase 2 residential | £1900 |
| Withdrawal after residential and before Phase 5 | Up to £380 |
If you anticipate moving to another school during the programme, it is your responsibility to ensure that programme fees are covered and to agree this with either your new or old school or to fund the programme yourself. This also applies if your circumstances change in other ways, for example through retirement or relocation. If you think this will apply to you, please discuss this with your provider as soon as possible.
We will ensure that wherever possible, you are allocated to the programme of your first or second choice. There may be times when a programme is cancelled, in which case we will not charge you a cancellation fee and your provider will contact you immediately to discuss an alternative date.
The cancellation charge may be waived under exceptional circumstances. Please put your case in writing to your provider for authorisation. For example, short notice Ofsted, bereavement or extenuating personal circumstances.
