The National College for School Leadership subsidises the cost of Head for the Future.
The school contribution for Head for the Future is £890 per participant.
The school contribution will be invoiced at the start of the programme in the four to six week lead-up to the residential session. Schools will also have to pay any supply and travel costs.
Independent schools are eligible for Head for the Future at a cost of £2,500 per participant.
Small schools with 100 pupils or fewer are entitled to a full subsidy from NCSL and therefore are not required to pay a contribution.
Schools who meet the criteria will receive an email confirming their eligibility to claim for travel and supply on application to the programme.
For small school participants starting the programme on or after 1 September 2008, schools will receive a capped expenditure allowance upon completion of the programme towards supply and travel costs. Schools will be contacted directly to confirm payment details towards the end of the programme. The small school allowance for 2008/2009 for Head for the Future is £500 per participant completing the programme.
Please make sure you have read the Head for the Future cancellation policy which is applicable to all schools.
*Small school definition
A small school is defined as any eligible establishment (see list below) which has 100 or fewer children of statutory school age according to the most recent Pupil Level Annual School Census (PLASC) return, as accessed by the College at the point of the headteacher's online application. This is the current definition as used by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
The College will measure the number of pupils on roll at the time the application is submitted, using its copy of the Edubase database, which is updated regularly. The College's decision in this regard is final. If the number on roll changes after this point, this will not affect the decision and the subsidy status will not change.
The following state schools and establishments are defined as eligible:
- community schools and colleges
- foundation schools and colleges
- pupil referral units
- academies
- LA nursery schools
- voluntary-aided schools and colleges
- voluntary-controlled schools and colleges
- secure units
- city technology colleges
- non-maintained special schools
Independent schools and international schools are not defined as eligible, as these schools sit outside the remit of the College.
