Opportunity for headteachers: regional leader recruitment opens 16 January. Details will shortly be available.
The Leadership Network annual conference 2007 was held at three regional locations in Bolton, Birmingham and London on 5, 7 and 8 March, and was a great success with 400 delegates attending.
The conference was entitled 'Stepping up, stepping out' and focused upon new models of leadership in action. The conference programme was designed to make connections with the voice of practice and what is known by leading academics and policy makers in the fields of leadership and professional learning. Opportunities were provided for delegates to engage with perspectives from research given by Professor Louise Stoll, and from practice given by Dr Reena Keeble. Conference activity also enabled network members to contribute to robust discussion and debate with key representatives of NCSL, the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) and the School Teachers' Review Body (STRB).
The discussion and debate on models of leadership begun by delegates at the conference, is continuing online through the Leadership Network Online (LNO) programme of national discussion forums
(40kb, 4 pages), due to take place throughout the summer term.
Share your views, practice and perspectives by joining the post-conference debate, which is being hosted by some of the keynote speakers from the conference and the Leadership Network's regional leaders.
The latest NCSL publications from the Leadership Network - Leading curriculum innovation and Leading curriculum innovation case studies from practice - were launched at the conference. Based on the work of Leadership Network schools involved in the Developing a 21st century curriculum project, and developed in partnership between NCSL and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, these publications provide a toolkit of resources, together with 20 case studies from practice, which will be of interest to all those involved in curriculum leadership and development in schools. To order hard copies of these publications, please email ln@ncsl.org.uk.
Following on from the conference and drawing upon the contributions of both the keynote speakers and the conference delegates, a post-conference publication is planned for the summer term. 'Stepping up, stepping out: learning about leadership' will provide a toolkit of four booklets on the conference theme including an overview of the conference debate, a selection of short think pieces, snapshots from practice and a discussion tool. This printed publication pack will be accompanied by an interactive DVD, designed to share practice from the Leadership Network in action on the themes of leading learning and growing leadership. To place an advance order for this publication, please email ln@ncsl.org.uk.
